As a rising senior at Rider University, I was seeking a new internship opportunity within the audit field. I came across Kreischer Miller through a friend who already worked at the company as a Staff Tax Accountant. He recommended that I go on a tour of the firm and meet some of the team members at an upcoming event. After meeting the welcoming staff and MaKayla Hancock, the firm’s Talent Acquisition Manager, I was convinced that Kreischer Miller would be a great fit for my next internship.
I applied to the internship position the moment I got home from the company event. After a few short days, I was interviewed by MaKayla; we had a great discussion about my interests and skills. Shortly after, I was given an offer to join the team as an Audit Intern for the summer of 2024.
I have had the privilege of working with three other interns throughout my experience, all of whom have been amazing and very helpful. Aside from my fellow interns, I also met an assortment of staff, seniors, managers, and directors, all of whom have been very welcoming and friendly every time I meet with them or ask questions.
The Day-to-Day Experience as an Audit Intern
During my time at Kreischer Miller, I was able to gain a lot of experience in the audit field with the Employee Benefit Plans team, auditing 401(k)s and pension plans. I was given detailed and important feedback on my performance on a regular basis, which helped me develop my skills and talents for my future career opportunities.
I was also encouraged to reach out to other teams and groups at the firm to learn about the work they do, and I even was able to shadow them for a day. This is an opportunity that not every company provides. Not only does Kreischer Miller care about completing high quality work, but the teams also care about the ongoing professional development of their staff.
A Glimpse into the Company Culture
My favorite part of my experience was the welcoming culture and fun activities planned throughout the summer. During my first week, a welcome reception was held for the summer interns; breakfast was set up in the office for all the staff to meet the new interns. Everyone spent a few minutes getting to know each other and it was a very welcoming start to help break the ice early on. In addition to the breakfast, many other fun events, such as the firm picnic, corn hole tournament, networking workshop, and a lunch & learn for Pride Month, were planned for everyone to attend over the summer.
Advice for Anyone Seeking an Internship
My experience at Kreischer Miller was incredibly valuable and unlike any other experience I’ve had with a company. Kreischer Miller not only helped me learn about the audit process and how to use different audit and accounting software, but they also helped me develop my professional skills and set me up for a successful career.
My advice to anyone currently seeking out internship opportunities is to be sure to explore your options carefully and ensure that the company you choose cares about you as much as you care for the position in their company. Kreischer Miller is not just a workplace, it’s a family that cares for your success and future as well.
